Loom
Local + CloudDocuments in, structured memories out.
What it does
Loom turns scanned records into queryable history. OCR reads the text, entity extraction finds the names and dates, and a human-in-the-loop review workflow catches what the machine missed.
What's included — Free (Local)
- Document upload and on-device OCR (Tesseract)
- Entity extraction: names, dates, places
- Review queue — confirm or correct before anything is committed to your tree
Cloud-boost (Premium)
When a scan is faded, the handwriting is tough, or a record holds dense cross-references, cloud-boost steps in:
- AI vision models read handwritten pages, faded prints, and multilingual records that stock OCR misses
- Document enhancement cleans and sharpens scans before extraction — deskew, denoise, contrast repair — for higher-quality output
- Enhanced data link identification catches cross-references between records the local pipeline would skip: a marriage certificate that mentions a maiden name matching a census entry twelve years earlier
